Leading interior designer Shaynna Blaze of The Block and Selling Houses Australia, shares her tips on her own bathroom renovations and how you can create an eye catching bathroom.

Shaynna recommends creating a mood board to firstly collate all of your design ideas and to identify the feel and mood you want to portray.

“It’s important to ensure the design and style of your bathroom matches your house and you consider who will use the space.

“You can get carried away with the design so you should consider the practicality of aesthetics before you choose your style.

“Keeping these things in mind helps to create your layout, the appliances and fittings you need, right down to the colour palette you will select,” said Shaynna.

If you have limited space in your bathroom, there is a way around it.

“Ensure everything is well thought out and planned, when considering sink and bench space and the size of your bathroom to optimise space and ensure it isn’t overcrowded,” said Shaynna.

Shaynna took reference for her bathroom design from pomp and Versailles to create a majestic room.

“My bathroom renovation was a complete fantasy, I wanted whoever walked into the room to be transported somewhere.

“I took it to an extreme level of a period style with detail in every form from tiles and light fittings to the furniture,” said Shaynaa.

Bold colour, texture and patterns can also be used as stylistic building blocks to create a distinct bathroom style.

“Contrasting palettes are popular with crisp whites teamed with deep black or charcoal.

“Utilising a ‘statement wall’ can lift the appearance of your bathroom. I used a mosaic feature as the eye-catching element of the room. Traditional or artistic mosaics can be used on shower walls, tub surrounds and floors,” said Shaynna.
