How can you maximise your local PR… read below!
You should have some good contacts with your local press via advertising, but it’s the editorial team who put articles together. It’s very important to make sure you have the correct editorial contacts. Each month I will send you a new press release that can be sent via post and email to your local media database. Remember that all publications need content for their media and throughout the year they will write about areas that relate to your products and services. Keeping your name and products in their face each month will offer a better chance of getting some free coverage.
Step 1 – Identify your local press
Build a database of local press contacts sourced from newspapers, magazines and websites. Take your time to identify the Homes sections of each media and make a note of the journalists who write for those papers, including any specialist kitchen sections.
Step 2 – Create a database
An Excel document would be an ideal program to store these details, along with the email address and full postal address for each contact. This will allow for an email and postal campaign. Also take note of the telephone number for more direct contact if needed.
Step 3 – Distributing the press release
You will receive a Word document to send to your contacts by post and email. You must ensure you include your name and contact details at the bottom of the document for journalist reference.
Step 4 – Handling image/information requests
Journalists may contact you for further information on your franchise or for images to print on their page. Please note all Franchisees have recently received a CD with a variety of images so you can select from the extensive range on the disc.
Step 5 – Press Office
From month to month, you will need to be ready to receive phone calls/emails from the media. The press releases you send each month could be kept on file for weeks and they may call you for information when they are preparing for specific subjects relevant to the press release.
Step 6 – Support
If you have any questions during the campaign, please do not hesitate to contact Jessie Harvey on (02) 8817 5900 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
